Video: Bell LG Bliss Unboxed

The LG Bliss was recently released by Bell and we got our hands on one to find out what’s inside the box and how the newest touchscreen actually feels.

First and foremost, the LG Bliss is incredibly light. It almost feels like you are holding nothing in your hand and it will feel similar in your pocket. The entire device is made of plastic, but this does not mean it can’t preform well. The overall style is nice with a large 3-inch touchscreen (resolution of 240 x 400). In addition, the only button on the face of the device are the call, end, back/speakerphone buttons. The usual button on the side of the device for volume, lock and a one-touch button for the 2 megapicel camera (located on the back… there is no flash for the camera).

Under the back cover is a slot for the microSD card that can hold up to 16GB of memory. Plus the battery is a 1000 mAh. We will be doing a full review over the next few days of the software and am looking forward to seeing how the touchscreen preforms, music player and the customizable screens look.

Check out the unboxing here:

  1. is there a SIM slot in that phone so that it can play on the coming LTE network, or it CDMA-only?

  2. I bought this phone the day it came out to replace my HTC Touch.
So far I like the phone but have been disappointed by a couple of things.

The phone has a nice browser that comes included however it is still no where as good as the Opera Mini browser. I installed Opera Mini on this phone and have a problem where the Browser it self works, but My keyboard doesn’t show up on the touch screen which prevents me from being allowed to enter in URLS and actually visit any sites other then the default bookmarks. So Opera Mini at this time is competly useless on the phone.

The second problem I have is Bell wants to charge me $8 per month to access Hotmail and Gmail through the provided e-mail application. This use to cost me nothing to access using my software on the HTC touch and also I was able to install G-Mail and use it freely. Bell store rep hid this fact from me and I can’t even return my phone now since i’ve exceeded the 30 minutes of talk time. So now I have to pay $8 a month to access my e-mails from hotmail and g-mail accounts.

This phone also doesn’t let you install, Goolgle maps, G-Mail App or any other google applications. The GPS software that’s included with the phone costs $10 per month to use. Bell also have blocked the right to install 3rd party software on this phone as well. I have tried installing free GPS apps that work with these LG phones, however some sort of BELL firewall blocks your abilty to even downloads these free GPS applications. So be prepared to actually pay to use GPS on your phone as Bell has decided to kill competition with this firewall.

THe pros of this phone are a great layout, quick load up times, fast application launches and the phone doesn’t crash or slow down. The touch screen keyboard i find to be even better then the iphone. This could have been a really good Bell product if they hadn’t put so many application restrictions and dumb charges on this phone.

Let me know about your experainces with the phone,

    Take Care,

    • see the problem is many people took this phone thinking it is like a regular smart phone because its touch screen and has touch QWERTY but it isnt reasoning why there are so many hidden charges. this phone is for people that dont nessarily use msn and facebook/ interent features on phone and also GPS but excellent for people looking for a hot and easy texting phone.

    • Tennesha You must work for the phone company based on you saying something so retarded.

Please Tennesha, tell me why on earth would they include all these features on this phone when “this phone is for people that dont nessarily use msn and facebook/ interent features on phone and also GPS” Please tell me why they have these options on the phone then? because its a cash cow. Bell tells you the phone has all these options, but they fail to tell you until you get your bill that they charge $10bucks a month for each of these options if you use them.

    • No i dont work for no phone company thanks, and what i meant by this phone is for people that dont nessarialy use facebook and tht stuff is that people that would TRULY ENJOY this phone are people tht dont constantly use it since they wouldnt have to face those charges so if u feel those stuff are a definate need this isnt the phone for u althought it offers it. u most be retarded to think just because it offers these features it is free thats the whole point of sayin it OFFERS it,meaning they can give it to you if you want it but u might have to pay for it DUH! and guess wat maybe if u asked the person who sold it to you if these apps wer free then u wouldnt be so surprised when u saw the charges -.-

    • Listen Tennesha, the in-store Bell Mobility people lie to make their sales commission. They told me this phone does this and that. They also told me that i would be able to install the Google apps such as GMAIL and Google maps. They told me specifically that all those google apps work on virtually every phone including this LG Bliss. Everything turned out to be lies.

So I wanted to return my phone, but since I had talked on it for more then 30 minutes, another thing they failed to tell me….my two week return or exchange policy was void and I was stuck in my 3 year contract with this crappy LG Bliss.

I just don’t want anyone else to be this emotionally hurt by Bell Mobility sales rep, this is why I shared my experience with everyone. Personally once I have the money to spend, I will spend the $400 dollars and buy my way out of this contract. I will never be a Bell Customer again, not for Satellite, not for cell service, nothing.

  4. LG Bliss sucks and its been a nightmare owning it! Bell Sales reps lie and pump the phone up when it really does suck. Bell Rips customers off. You have to spend $8 for e-mail and $10 extra for mobile browser. $18 in hidden charges for my LG Bliss. Why not spend $7 more per month and get a GSM Based Black Berry from Rogers….a real smart phone. Bell customer service told me since I talked 30 minutes on my phone I can't return it either. ALERT TO CONSUMERS BELL LG BLISS IS A RIP OFF!…

  5. So Matt, did you just copy and paste that review on four websites? Anyway, I've been looking at it several times, and looking at plans, and it looks like a very nice phone.

  6. The Bell LG Bliss touch screen is really tough to text with. easier to make calls. mobile browser surfing sucks, and i can’t even put my own ringtones on it! bell makes you buy ringtones and pay tons for data to download it. So if you don’t mind cheesy ringtones and limited ability to text and only want to answer calls, well this phone is perfect for you.

  7. you can put on ringtones with the memory card, many phones are like this when it doest hav a jack for usbs. so load ur music onto ur memory card and just pust the memory card into the phone and for texting it has t9 so it can correct you when typing.

  8. To the Matts and Jacks of the world…..

Whatever Bell pulls off, it’s not indicative of the phone itself.

If you hate Bell (I can’t say I blame you) – but that has nothing to do with the phone itself.

  9. Why do people all over the net b***h about the this phone because of the price of the apps etc.? That is not a problem with the phone , its a problem with bell mobility. They are criminals but the the phone is amazing for the price, bell on the other hand is not!

  10. Bell’s Customer service SUCKS terribly!
They WAY over charge, that is for sure. I will be saving up my money and switching to Rogers once I have enough to buy outta my contract with them.
They’re such a hassle to work around.

On the other hand, I think the LG Bliss is a decent phone. It has a few specs. that disapoint me, but overall its a decent phone, that is for sure!

  11. A really light weight and convenient long talk time between charges phone that has worked well as a phone for me. The Bell pricing for any of the options the phone can provide is of course a total rip-off, so I just use it as a phone and occasional web browser when I’m in a pinch.

  12. If you think Bell is bad, Virgin has completely removed access to GPS, the multimedia player and FM radio. No icons for any of them, at least not on my prepaid BLISS. MP3s can only be played by clicking them one at a time.

You can install your own ringtones though, and pix(JPG)for wallpapers etc. Even movies. Use Bluetooth to transfer the files to and from your computer. Bluetooth transfers are at fairly low speeds so not recommended for transferring large files or lots of MP3s. USB transfers or direct copy to a micro-SD memory card would be more efficient.

Ringtones need to be in .QCP format and must be copied to the phone’s internal memory, not a memory card. (use the free PureVoice app from Qualcomm to convert audio files to use for ringtones). Movies made with the phone are in .3g2 format. You can convert external videos to this format and copy them to a micro-SD card to watch them on the phone.

  13. I bought the bliss and its not bad. the problem is the companies that own it. ie telus and bell. start a case with the better business bureau, I did against telus and won. they dropped my contract. thell do just about anything to drop those cases. as I suspect that they might affect there stock prices. anyways it does appear to ^%#&%* with them so give it a shot. anything to screw with them is ok by me!
