Palm says “unlimited plan strongly recommended” for the Pre

palm-pre-order

With just over 3 weeks away until the official launch of the Palm Pre, the flurries of promotional material has started to go out from all channels: Bell Mobility, big box stores and now Palm directly. They sent out an e-blast for those who wanted to be notified titled Reserve your Palm Pre”, the teaser line “So Close you can almost feel it.”

Palm goes on to let us know that “The new Palm Pre phone will be here August 27, starting at $199.95 on the Bell network (after qualifying service agreement).1″. Curious what the number “1″ is all about? Well, the fine print says “Price after qualifying service agreement. See Bell for complete details. Email, mobile number and related information required for setup and activation. Required data plan not included; unlimited plan strongly recommended.

So take the advice from the folks over at Palm, get and unlimited plan.

  1. I think it's just a way to try and get people to spend more money. I've never even exceeded 1GB out of the 6GB I get every month with my iPhone, web surfing doesn't rack up the data usage a ton, but if you do a lot of video streaming you might rack it up.

  2. I've never owned a smartphone but I'm considering the 500MB/month plan. Can anyone with an iPhone or BB comment and let me know if you think that's enough for normal usage? I'm thinking checking email regularly and the odd googling of something.

  3. I'm surprised Bell actually offers an unlimited plan. They are so stingy with things usually and love to set caps. Just look at their internet offerings nowadays.

  4. I signed up for the unlimited plan. $96 a month with unlimited date, 800 minutes per month and unlimited texting.

Oh, and unlimited NHL content. Not sure why they add that.
