Vex gives you free Wifi at CFL games and lots of ads

vex-logoCompared to our friends in the United States, our Canadian football games have their own flare of excitement. Vex has entered Canada and has given us another way to get distracted… by giving us free WiFi during some CFL games, namely the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Vex will make it’s money by a new advertising program that “works with a single HotSpot provider, such as a coffee shop franchise, with a like-minded advertiser looking to connect with a similar demographic: the advertiser will fund the Wi-Fi service through online ads, but will also receive in-store branding at the HotSpot’s location.”

Asif R. Khan, Country Manager, Vex Canada said “We are excited about today’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats announcement as it so greatly exemplifies our mission in Canada – to bring free Wi-Fi to unexpected locations. Canadians have an appetite for free Wi-Fi access”.

David Lachapelle, Director of Technology, Hamilton Tiger Cats stated “This is a technology touchdown for the Tiger-Cats, as well as for the fans in Hamilton. We recognized a desire for this kind of Wi-Fi access from our attendees, and anticipate a great response.”

Thanks Allison!

    2. As an alternative to this kind of corporate offering,
Free-wifi.ca has been running for over a year… it’s a grassroots project that offers free hotspots all over Edmonton. Kudos to Vex for offering this, but I’d rather see a community-based initiative take responsibility for setting up local wifi, rather than being run by a large corporation that will shut it down the second it becomes unprofitable.
