Nokia 5800 XpressMusic now available in Canada!

Rogers Nokia 5800 XpressMusicIt was way back in October of 2008 that we first wrote about the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, the touchscreen device once rumoured to be called the “Tube”. Over the past year or so we have seen this show up as “coming soon” at The Source locations and more recently at Rogers Wireless locations also. Well good news for those who’ve been waiting for this to officially be available in Canada – today is your big day!

Rogers has officially released the 5800 XpressMusic and this can be yours on a promo 3-year contract for $199.99. Other price points are No Term is $399.99; 1-Year is $349.99; 2-Year is $299.99 3-Year after the promo is $249.99. To get the 3-year promo deal requires an activation of the unlimited On-Device browsing plan, $15 Value Pack or $25 Value Pack.

Now that the pricing is out of the way, some key features are the 3.2 inch touchscreen with a resolution of 360 x 640. Overall dimensions are 111 x 51.7 x 15.5 mm and weighs only 109 grams. We played around with this the other day and this feels really solid. The design is nice and with the size of the display the 5800 sure makes use of all the available space.

To date, this is Nokia Canada’s newest flagship device (until the N97 comes out) and with a name connected to the XpressMusic lineup you know this was meant to crack out music. This also comes with a 3.5 mm audio jack. They have included an 8GB card and this can hold up to 16GB with a microSD card. The speakers are impressive and can be heard here. One other feature of the 5800 is the 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, auto-focus and a dual LED flash. In addition, this has the ability to share your pics via Nokia’s Ovi Share.

Other features the 5800 XpressMusic comes with is Nokia Maps, full QWERTY touchscreen keyboard for messaging (160 character limit), FM radio, TV Out, GPS, Accelerometer, Handwriting recognition.

We will have a full review shortly, for now check out this video we shot a couple days ago at the Nokia sponsored MMVA’s:
