Retailer shortages of Rogers HTC Magic & Dream?

fs-bb-magic-shortageWe know Rogers made a massive push to become the first carrier in Canada to release an Android device but have heard there’s shortages already of the HTC Dream & Magic.

With the Revolution in full speed, this is now evident with both Best Buy and Future Shop stating the HTC Dream is “Coming Soon”, actually arriving June 9th and only available for in-store purchases. In addition, the HTC Magic has been slapped with the famous “coming soon” also.

On a different note, we’ve had people e-mail us that they’re getting the Magic for $129.99 when they call Rogers directly, some customers who migrate over to Rogers from another carrier who go on a Voice and Data plan are getting the device for free!

What is your experience with the first Android devices? What price are you getting them at?

    1. Can confirm that Rogers is offering the magic for existing customers as:

$174.99 upgrade with 3-year data plan
      -$50.00 mail-in rebate
      TOTAL: $124.99

Also can confirm that I was offered this price at a Rogers dealer and through customer service. Cheers guys. Not sure how long the mail-in rebate promo is going on for but it might just be for early adopters (HUPs only)!

      Cheers.

    2. That’s your upgrade price. Every customer has different upgrade pricing depending on their revenue and tenure. You have Tier V pricing. Someone with Tier I pricing will pay $299.99 – $50 rebate, and a $35 admin fee.

The $50 rebate has been the case for every upgrade for years and years. It is nothing special.

The price ise the price. $149.99/3yr with $45 worth of voice and data.

    3. any news on the android specific data plans? I read something about it somewhere else and when I called rogers they said “don’t say that you heard it from me but they will be similar to the plans when I iphone first came out”. Don’t know exactly what’s going on there.. their system is all messed up. When I got the magic, they put me on a plan that I didn’t want be assured me that I would be able to switch later.

    4. Evidently at Costco you can get the product for free on a 3 year voice and data plan.

Originally it was $49.99, but after the Rogers slash it’s apparently $0.

(Note; I’m based out west, so not sure if things differ out east).
