Public Mobile reveals their Distribution Channels

public-mobile-distribution-imageDuring the Spectrum Auction last year Public Mobile, formerly known as BMV Holdings, spent $53 million to grab hold of a potential 19 million wireless customers that spans across Ontario and Quebec.

On April 25th CEO Alek Krstajic
appeared on the Business News Network (BNN) and talked about what us Canadians can expect over the next few months. We found out that they’ll be launching sometime in Q3 and will offer a $40 monthly “unlimited flat-rate talk and text package, with no term commitment, no credit checks, no fine print and no surprises”.

During the interview Krstajic said when Public Mobile actually launches “there will be a lot of places to get a phone from us, we will be where our value conscious segment lives, works and plays. I don’t think you’ll see us in the traditional high-end malls because our segment doesn’t actually shop there. I think you’ll see us do some very interesting things on distribution, it’s a bit of the secret sauce… you will see us in strip malls, yes”.

Just over a month has passed from this interview and Public Mobile has added a “Distribution” page on their website. Looks like they are getting deeper into executing their strategy and requesting business owners to submit an application. The description states “Every now and then a product or service offering comes along that the marketplace has been waiting for. Public Mobile is just that type of service offering. Our service is different, and how we distribute our services to our customers will also be different. If you have interest in investigating the exciting opportunity to become a distributor for Public Mobile, please provide your information below.”

The most interesting part of the application is the question “What is your current type of business?”. Even though Krstajic said “you will see us in strip malls”, their distribution channel will go beyond and target these areas such as: Convenience Stores, Gas Stations, Grocery Stores, Consumer Electronic Stores, Drug Stores, Mall Kiosk, Mall Store (Independent), Mall Store (Chain) and Independent Multi-location Stores.

Nothing on the current distribution list is “secret sauce” worthy, all locations are ordinary and somewhat expected. We’ve seen all the current carriers Rogers, Bell, TELUS (plus their sub brands) and the Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) such as 7Eleven Speak Out Wireless, Petro-Canada, PC Mobile sell in all these locations over the past few years. Perhaps they have something special coming out that will go hand-in-hand with their tagline of “Everybody Talk”.

In addition, they’ll look for assistance from these locations to help with advertising the Public Mobile brand as one of the questions is “Can You Display a Banner outside your locations?”.
