Rogers to launch Android HTC Dream and Magic June 2nd!

rogersandroidThe great news just keeps on coming today!

Rogers Wireless will exclusively release the highly anticipated HTC Dream and HTC Magic. These are not just another couple HTC devices, what is unique about these are that they are the first cellphones in Canada powered by Google’s open source Android platform.

Excited? This is actually huge news! Rogers has put together a section on their site that gives an official countdown to June 2nd. Check it out here: rogers.com/revolution.

In the subtle words of John Boynton, SVP and CMO, Rogers Wireles”Who else but Rogers would be the first carrier to offer Canadians the first chance to join the mobile revolution with a choice of not one, but two, handsets powered by the Android platform? The HTC Magic offers a responsive touch screen and the HTC Dream delivers both a touch screen and a slide out QWERTY keyboard. Both devices offer outstanding wireless internet search capabilities and a full suite of applications that run two times faster on Canada’s fastest mobile network.”

    2. But where is the HTC Pro 1 or 2, HTC HD, HTC Cruise or The Sony Ericsson Xperia? We still don’t get any interesting GSM phones in this country.

    3. That’s because we have only one GSM carrier.

Are you going to be able to get 3G on this??

Rogers’ / Fido’s HSDPA is on 850 MHz. The online specs for the HTC HD say “900/2100 MHz” for HSDPA.

This is the reason I have not tried to get a G1 from the US … the way I understand it, the best data connection you will get is Edge.

No my HTC HD dose not receive 3G only Edge or 2G in North America. In my opinion the difference in speed is minor even unnoticeable. With WIFI available at home, office and in most places I work and travel to I am mostly on WIFI and it’s even faster than 3G. Believe me the HTC HD makes up for the lack of no 3G reception, the phone is simply amazing!

    5. Android, the Palm Pre, and the third gen iphone, and a new provider(Globalive) all coming in the next few months. I’m so glad I went with a month to month plan when I switched.

    6. So what is Telus doing in all this. Bell introduces the Palm Pre, Rogers introduces the HTC Dream and Magic, what does Telus have to show us… NOTHING! WTF… I’m with Telus, sadly…

    7. I believe Telus will proablly nab some Samsung android devices, who knows maybe the reason we arent seeing some phones is because Globalive has already acquired some exclusives for launch

    8. What is Telus doing? Hemorrhaging market share, is what. I really don’t know what that company is thinking, dragging their feet like this. They should be going hard after the Samsung i7500, or one of the Motorola Androids. They’ve put way too much faith in Blackberry.
