Rogers changes Hardware Upgrade Program for Smartphone customers

rogers-hup

We knew that Rogers increased the rates of their BlackBerry devices from our story last week.

However, today it seems an internal e-mail has surfaced that states the Hardware Upgrade Program (HUP) for Smartphone owners will be changing from 12 months to 24 months. Voice only customers will remain the same at 12 months.

According to BGR the e-mail reads “The Hardware Upgrade Program (HUP) allows eligible customers to upgrade to leading edge data devices. Beginning March 17, the minimum eligibility tenure rule is changing from 12 months to 24 months for customers who wish to upgrade their smartphone and are currently on a data plan or Voice & Data Package.”

  1. Great :(

Wouldn't be surprised if this is in anticipation for the new iPhone model expected to surface this summer.

  2. I wonder if their iphone swap program is next. I have a friend that has the iphone and it wouldnt turn on after 3 months and they told him tough luck and sent him on his way. He was super upset. This HUP change doesnt surprise me with the economy the way it is. All companys are going to be changing alot. The government regulates the cost of the devices and phone companys are already loosing $$ let alone letting clients upgrade so soon. Hopefully we will see a positive change in rate plans with the new companys coming.
