Rogers launches traffic service “io-traffic”

torontotrafficRogers Wireless launched a new traffic service called “io-traffic”. It works by collecting millions of GPS and mobile phone locations, records the road speeds and then constructs a live image of traffic conditions in the area. Talk about being your every move being monitored…

This service will be implemented first on radio stations, starting with Rogers 680News and the service is available in the Toronto area with plans to roll out to Ontario cottage country and other major Canadian cities shortly.

John Hinnen, VP News, and General Manager of 680News said ”680News is well established as the prime radio station for accurate traffic reports. With io-traffic, the moment the traffic speed changes our listeners will be the first ones to know, which will allow them to map out their route accordingly and hopefully provide them with some stress relief when navigating the city streets and highways”
