Ever wonder how much us Canadians pay out every year for that 911 fee on our cellphone bill? Well, we have just over 21 million cellphone subscribers across the country, carriers (Rogers Communications, Bell Canada and Telus) roughly charge $0.50 – $1.00 per customer every month and in 2008 the big 3 each collected between $3.7-million and $4.8-million a month in 2008!
Take this number further, over 6 years we’re paying out about $1 billion. The real question is to ask if you think you’re getting value for your money…or should this 911 service be covered by the government?

This is just another way for providers to gauge every cent they can from helpless customers. If government is too cheap to cover this, I think it should be pay-per-use basis.

Easy jumping to conclusion be certain all the infrastructure salaries and overhead nation wide cost a pretty penny. Cheapest solution is likely a forensic accountant tracking the money trail. MHO
