T-Mobile G1 Android… unlocked and could come to Canada by January

T-Mobile’s G1 Android phone launched yesterday and we though Canadians will not see this here for a while. However, the official T-Mobile “policy is that they are willing to provide you with a SIM Unlock code, provided that you have been a T-Mobile customer for a minimum of 90 days”. This means that after the 90-day period (late January, early February 2009) we will start seeing unlocked T-Mobile G1 smartphones showing up on Craiglist, Kijiji, eBay… then possibly connect it to Rogers, Fido… One can only dream will be true.

    1. Actually, if a current customer upgrades to the G-1, then unlocked versions should be available shortly after launch.

I don’t see why anybody would want one in Canada, anyway. T-Mobile’s 3G network is 1700/2100 MHz, so it would only get EDGE on Rogers/Fido.
