Thanks rtt.

I spoke to someone at Telus (I'm in Ottawa) again today, and they are now telling me that they are hoping to get some next week.

I also spoke to someone at Best Buy and he was told by his Telus rep that they are delayed until the first week of September.

I wish that they'd had this sorted out sooner.

The launch date of August 14 was on a press release that is on the Telus web site, so it was official. But you need to understand what "launch date" really means. It means you could order it on their web site that day and a few stores got a few units on the 15th. Most stores are getting a lot of stock this week.

I haven't been able to track any of these handsets down, and my local Telus store told me that they are hoping to get some in sometime next week.

When I contacted Telus about the delay, they denied even having published the August 14 launch date.

Does anyone have any other info on this?

While Sprint and Verizon consider final monikers for the HTC Touch Diamond, some North Americans are already enjoying the thing up in the Great North. The ecstatic folks over at Mobile Syrup were able to snap up Telus' version of the WinMo 6.1-packin' handset, and of course, they put together a video review for us Americans to drool over.

MobileSyrup’s Rob managed to get his lucky hands on Telus’ HTC Touch Diamond. Needless to say, he loves the Windows Mobile smartphone, even though he would prefer the European version of the device with shapes like a diamond on the back.

I've had my Diamond for about a day and ahalf now and I'll try to answer some of the questions.

1. Battery life - I'm not sure on this one yet. Yesterday it did not last the full day but I was still playing hard with it on data and used the GPS so I don't know what sucks battery yet (I suspect the GPS).
2. GPS - used it in Google Maps and it worked great. Connected to 6 satellites (I was west of the GTA) and tracked me perfectly. BTW, to download Google Maps on this phone, you have to use the Internet Explorer browser to go to m.google.com because the Opera browser doesn't pass on that it is a WinMo device.
3. Boot up - quite quick as far as I am concerned. The lag issues have been fixed in the European models with ROM 1.93 and those fixes were applied to the ROM in this phone.
4. SD Reader - This phone does not have an SD card slot, it only has the 4GB of internal storage.
5. USB host - I'm sorry I don't understand what this is.
6. Video resolution - Just looked and you have four resolution modes in the video camera mode: L, M, S, and CIF. It records in MPEG format. I haven't run a video but the pictures are very crisp and clear.

I have played with an original European version and this is much faster.

Hope that helps.
