As it usually takes 3 weeks to form a new habit, the Nova Scotia RCMP are informing motorists to consider putting down their cellphones now so they’re prepared for the new driving hand-held cellphone ban that comes into effect April 1st. Drivers who violate the new legislation will face a $164.50 fine for a first offence and the penalty rises to $222 for a second violation and $337 for any subsequent offences.

  3. I think the RCMP have created a good system with the increasing fines for people driving with a handheld.
Legislation in the UK has definitely saved lives but many repeat offenders would think twice if the fine got higher each time they were caught.
